Kulim International Airport
An aerotropolis is a metropolitan subregion whose infrastructure, land use, and economy are centered on an airport.

The proposed site for Kedah Aerotropolis is at Mukim Sidam Kiri of the Kuala Muda District. This 9,800-acre development will consist of the Kulim International Airport (KXP) and the Sidam Logistics, Aerospace & Manufacturing Hub (SLAM).
KXP and SLAM are expected to be a game changer for NCER’s economy. These projects will support the growth of e-commerce, not just in the region but also in Southern Thailand. It will also help accelerate the advancement of high-tech industries, such as the Maintenance, Repair and Operating Supplies (MRO) subsector.
One of KXP’s key advantages over many other airports is its ability to integrate sea-air-surface transport modes. With its close location to Penang Port in Pulau Pinang, KXP is in a position to facilitate sea-to-air transportation at half the cost and half the time. In addition, KXP has readily available land that can cater for its expansion for the next 20 to 50 years
Kedah Rubber City
KRC is the first dedicated Rubber Industrial Park in Kedah. Covering an area of 1,244 acres, it is envisioned to accelerate the development of Malaysia’s rubber industry.

The project is a synergistic effort supported by Malaysia and Thailand to stimulate socioeconomic development in the border region. It will be developed into a “Rubber Corridor” that will link the region’s major rubber producers in the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT).
These seven (7) key clusters have been identified for KRC:
- Advanced Latex Products
- Tyre and Tyre Related Products
- Automotive Rubber Products
- Engineering Rubber Products
- Advanced Rubber Materials
- Biotechnology
- Services & Support
KRC will also strengthen the rubber value chain across the upstream, midstream and downstream segments in the IMT-GT sub-region, which will enable local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to be more competitive.
This project is expected to contribute RM14.7 billion to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and create 14,500 jobs within 15 years once it is completed by 2030.
Special Border Economic Zone
The Bukit Kayu Hitam Special Border Economic Zone (SBEZ) is a new development covering approximately 11,000 acres of land located near the border area of Kedah and Sadao, Thailand. It consists of the Kedah Science & Technology Park (KSTP) and Kota Perdana SBEZ (KPSBEZ).

KSTP focuses on two components – the Global Research Centre (GRC) and Modern Industrial Park – as economic drivers for Kedah through applied research and development. KSTP is expected to create 23,242 new jobs for the locals and contribute approximately RM72.7 billion to Malaysia’s GDP.
